Oval Tower
Location: Oss
Brief description: Head Office Organon Pharmaceuticals
Architect: Van den Broek en Bakema of Rotterdam
Engineer: Ullehake Bouwconstructies
Contractor: Bouwbedrijf Berghege B.V.
This tower like building with oval shaped floor plan houses the new head
office of Organon. (The company logo is an oval) The total floor surface
amounts to 5,800m2. The structural stability of the building is provided by
a fairly long-stretched reinforced concrete core that has been projected
under an angle onto the long axis of the oval. The fascia are supported by
the floor’s perimeter edge at every level. Columns have been placed close to
the floor’s edge while a span of 8.5m was achieved throughout the building.
Originally consideration was given toward a hollow core slab, which required
a cast-in-place oval beam at the perimeter and cast-in-place shoulders at
the building’s core, versus a BubbleDeck floor that required neither while
bearing on the perimeter columns. Because of the considerably
simplified construction, site preparations and the savings on building cost
and time the BubbleDeck floor was chosen. Most of the floors are BD
280mm while on some levels a BD 340mm slab was applied to accommodate to
higher load ratings in those areas. The majority of the floors are
monolithic floors requiring no additional finishing. |
