The Concrete Building Revolution
BubbleDeck creates a prefab two-way hollow slab deck in
which plastic balls -‘bubbles’- keep concrete out of zones
where it has the least carrying effect. This results in
dramatic overall weight reduction, so that larger spans and
overhangs can be achieved.
The bubble diameter and the layout of the welded reinforcement
rebar mesh are configured relative to the thickness of the
required surface (floor) so that the ultimate concrete
construction is obtained with maximum positive effect against
flexion and shear forces.
Illustration 1. shows how the BubbleDeck ‘ball cage’ is
configured and assembled.
Its two unique components, the balls and the welded
reinforcement rebar mesh, together with the rebar girders
connecting top and bottom mesh, ultimately form the
geometrically stable BubbleDeck element.
Illustration 2. shows the ball cage being cast in a thin layer
of concrete, which replaces on-site subsurface formwork and
which remains an integral part of the finished deck.
During on-site pouring the rebar mesh retains and locks the
bubbles in exact position to ensure even distribution of
concrete.
The result is a monolithic two-way hollow deck with superior
surface bearing properties.
